Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The location's pretty great, close to Miyanoura Port, if you're arriving by ferry. It's a bit of a trek from the airport though, but not a problem if you have a rental car (which you really should if you're visiting Yakushima). It's within walking distance to a bunch of good restaurants, and the owners are really nice and friendly. There is also an adorable cat named Moro that lives on the premises and demands head scratches.

Negative: This isn't really the owner's fault, but the reception desk is only manned for check-in during specific hours during the day. There is a sign posted that requests that you call the owner if you arrive outside of these hours, but this is a problem if you're not travelling with a functional roaming cell phone. I got help from another guest that had Japanese cell service, but do keep this in mind when arriving. Again this isn't really the owner's fault, this is a great place to stay and is highly recommended!!

Summary: Great guesthouse to base yourself out of when exploring beautiful Yakushima!
