Positive: The hotel is really intended as a motel - you can walk there from Hirafu Station in about a half hour on a gravel road, but it's clearly not the intended means of transport. The facilities were much cleaner and nicer than I expected for the price, although they smelled like tobacco smoke. If you're looking to climb Mt. Yotei, the hotel is within about a 50 minute walk of one of the trailheads.

Negative: Interactions with the front desk were a little strange, although very quick to pick up the phone and answer questions. Without a car, the nearest store is about an hour walk away (unless you go by train, but Hirafu Station has very few trains), although the hotel does have a menu of drinks and frozen foods which I didn't try.

Summary: Stayed 2 nights with the intention of climbing Mt Yotei, and arrived on foot from Hirafu Station.
